I was looking at a website this evening and ran across a picture of roller fairleads? that fit over the stanchion. Has anyone ever seen these before? Who makes them?

Never mind! I found them. Schaefer makes them and they are sold at West Marine. I've never seen anything like these. Seem like a great idea.

I was just thinking about possible adverse ankle interaction!

Spinlock makes some very nice ones too... maybe not quite as bulky.
I use them for my jib downhaul. They work just fine.

To most others, notice his stanchions are further outboard than yours, he has a little more room for ankle obstacles but I have elected to not use those because I do think our sidedecks are still too narrow for that kind of hardware.

A number of manufacturers make them. Some require removing the lifelines to slip them over the stanchions. We've used Johnson leads which are bullet fairleads on hose clamps. Just check any West Marine catalog or others, they're usually all displayed. Whenever you have a question of "who makes this thing?" look in a catalog, amazing what one can learn and the West Marine Advisors, both in their catalogs and online, are superb avenues for learning all sorts of stuff.

I like that the line is off the deck(I hate stepping on round cordage, it tends to roll under foot). I also like that the lines are seaward of the stanchions and set low down, BUT it seems to me that the benefits are balanced by the potential for leaking stanchion bases caused by pressure on them when furling especially if they aset higher.

We had those Schaeffer's on our C22 and they were excellent. Low friction and out of the way. Fairly expensive though. The second Spinlock looks like a nice alternative.

First, the Schaefer's don't appear to extend past the edge of the stanchion base so I'm not sure how much they would get in the way. I don't usually step on my stanchion bases.

Second, I think the Spinlocks would work just as well and are aboout $50.00 a piece cheaper. I'll most likely go with the Spinlocks.

That was a major influence in my purchasing decision as well. I've been completely satisfied with them.
