I've searched the 250 archives looking for information on configuring a Downhaul/Cunningham. My U. S. Sailing Basic Cruising text identifies a Downhaul as a line used to pull down on a movable gooseneck, in order to tighten the luff of the mainsail. The text then identifies a Cunningham as a line running through a grommet, about 8 inches up from the tack of a mainsail, used to tighten the luff of the sail.
So I guess what I am looking for information on the various ways members have rigged a Cunningham on their 250s. Pictures would be appreciated.
I don't have a cunningham but I took sailing classes on a J24 that had one. It was a simple line with an in-line cleat and a hook at the other end. You could also rig a cunningham without a hook by running a line from the port side gooseneck through the grommet to a cleat near the starboard side gooseneck. When I used a cunningham it was adjusted at the same time the outhaul was adjusted and both were adjusted at the mast.
Sorry I didn't have a better answer. Russ C250WB #793
I have one on my boat . I added 3 spinlocks on both sides of the cabin top . you also have to add blocks on the corners to get around the companionway bump , (if you want to bring it back to the cockpit .)I used doubles and stacked them to give you 4 on each side .
the cunningham is nice I use it ,I raise the sail snug it up then use the cunningham to take the lower wrinkles out .
you could end it at the mast base , but I use the winch to sung it up .
mine already had the cunningham with the grommet in the sail and a eye on one side of the mast and cleat on the other side. I can do pictures next time I go to the boat.
