Has anyone heard of (or have) a 1980's Shoreline Trailer with the break away break feature on the tongue?
I brought the trailer home last year without the boat and re-painted it with rustoleum. Put the boat on the trailer and while on the way...about 1-1.5 feet of tongue extended!!! Then on the trip, it went back and forth in and out (talk about scary). Any ideas?
They no longer make these trailers and apparently no instruction manuels exist (on line at least)
My 1981 trailer has an extendable tongue, which was pretty common in those years. Can you post a picture? As Clam suggests - you should be looking for the locking mechanism which is probably a pin or clevis.
AND - PLLLEEEAAASE, pretty please, tell us where 'Old Disco Queen' came from and what it means.

I am not familiar with your trailer, however, if it's anything like the trailer for my San Juan 21, there is an "L" shaped pin with a keeper that inserts at both extremes to lock the tube in place, all the way in for trailering, and all the way out for launching. It sounds like your pin has gone missing. Look for a hole near the end of the inner box extendable tube, probably around 1/2" in diameter, there should be corresponding holes at the front & back of the outer fixed box tube that's welded to the trailer. Find a pin that fits, any trailer or RV store will have a good variety. Make sure to have an extra keeper or two, they have a habit of jumping off.
Hope this helps and glad nothing drastic occurred during your last tow.
Storage trailer? Any brakes at all? Tongue extensions on EZ Loader and Trailrite are along side of tongue with brakes. Tongue extensions do have the L shaped pin with keeper.
Well...thanks for the tips. Will check again for the holes...When trailering it did not seem to effect the chains or brake lines. it has one of the big "break away" boxes on the top of the tongue. Thanks!
