I got a call the other day from the State park at Mosquito lake in northeastern Ohio. They had an oversized dock available for me. In Ohio you enter a lottery in the Fall along with hundreds of others and you wait to be drawn sometime in August. I didn't get in. I didn't think I would get a space as our marina has a hundred regular sized dock spaces (<20') and only 25 or so larger size spaces (>20 <26) the size I needed. In fact, the secretary at the park office told me I was about 9 down on the alternate list and had very little chance of getting a space. I got one.
I'm glad to get off the mooring I've been on for the last 5 years. Not so much a problem for me, but for my wife who just doesn't feel comfortable in my inflatable with the old mercury 2 horse sputtering out to the mooring ball. It's good news for her.
In fact, I'm glad we got one. I've noticed a definite lack of interest over the winter with her and the boat. I think she just did not have much control over when she could go and enjoy it. Now she can. She has actually gotten back the excitement knowing that she can spend some time on the boat by herself, something she has not been able to do from the beginning.
The new dock is the last row back into a large bay. It is sheltered from wind and waves and is quite a nice setting. Looking forward to not having to haul equipment and tools out to the mooring and rocking and rolling as I make repairs. It's very quiet.
We still have the mooring over at the club across the lake and I will keep it so we can use it when we go over to get set up to race. I also will allow it to become a public mooring that others can use if they want.
Yep, I think I'm gonna get spoiled. I know we will spend a lot more time out there now and especially since it is about 2 miles from my office. I'll have to rename the boat "The Office".
It will also be more accessible for our friends and family. Now I'm starting to get excited. Now if we could just get rid of the ice!
Good for you guys. I spent 15 years on a mooring as we were too big for the marina. It was especially difficult as the area was open to the lake and the boat did take green water over the bow at the mooring. You both will really enjoy the dock time. The ice here is almost gone but it is snowing today.

Any issues with water level that far into the inlet? <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">
I was assured that the bay is dredged to 7 feet at that location. Water levels will drop toward the end of summer, but all I need is 3.5 feet to get out. Usually there is a dock or two open in the front of the bay by late summer. I could "slip" up there if need be.
