Check this out: http://demo.geogarage.com/noaa/.

Don't know much about this, it's a French project. A friend of mine sent me the link earlier today. Very cool to zoom around and see all the charts for all of the US.

Very cool.
Just looked at the charts for Juan de Fuca and Georgia Straight, where I do a lot of sailing.

I don't know how far I'd trust it, but for general trip planning or looking for new cruising grounds etc., it's pretty handy. Plus, the price is right.

I just bought the Inside Passage chip for my Garmin, plus I already have most of the paper charts. Rita & I plan to do a trip next summer (2009) for our 50th birthday celebration. Already had the Puget Sound chip, which I've used on several cruises so far.

David, great site. Thanks for sharing it. I love how you blow it up. Hope I can print them out for my area.

It is an interesting site. Amazing how suddenly the water depth drops off the Calif. coast. However, it is using the same images, at least inland, that are in Google Map. I zoomed in on my house and I can tell that the image is at least 3 years old (based on the newer houses that do not show up on the image.

We previously couldn't see the hose due to the canopy of a very large Maple tree.

At my place, my 18' runabout (sold last year) is in the slip at my condo, and Passage (sold in 8/06) is in her slip in the marina.

Satellite imagery is going to change a lot... I heard recently from a knowledgeable source that a bunch of military imagery is going to be made available to the likes of Google Earth. We're talking about the kind of resolution where you can read the full-page headline on the front of the NY Post (tabloid). Keep your shades pulled.

This is a very beautiful thing, <i>EXCEPT</i> there's no detail for Long Island Sound! It must be a Colregs thing, it only covers blue water, which is fine. I've got plenty of charts and I can also use:
<u><font color="blue">http://ocsdata.ncd.noaa.gov/OnLineViewer/AtlanticCoastViewerTable.htm</font id="blue"></u>
for local charts. Pacific coast and Great Lakes users only need to go up a level to find their charts.

Our boat is in the backyard, but the fence demolished by Wilma is only partially rebuilt. So the pics of our area must be around mid 06. So I scrolled across to my office and there's my truck... hey! It looks like some guy is standing next to it!

The pics are clearly from Maps google, and those of Black Point Marina show the huge parking lot as well as the 10 ramps (2 singles and 8 doubles) you can see why that place is rocking in the summer time.
I wonder how the cost of fuel affects traffic... will find out this weekend.

Dave R -
A friend passed the NOAA link on to me. I think its a secret, so don't tell anybody . . . . hahaha

Dave B -
I see - can you find Stratford Marina up above the bend in the river? Do you see that little 25 footer on the end of B dock surrounded by the 46 foot double masters, and the fishing boats? Yep, that's me livin' large.
