The Bad News: I blew out my main a week ago last Thursday. The Good News: I'm getting a new mainsail!
Looking for recommendations for lofts with quick service and a good product at a reasonable cost. Have been waiting for Ullman to give me a quote (I need to make a few mods like a second reef point and a window).
I need some other recommendations as I'm a little disappointed with the time it's taking to get the quote from Ullman. I know this has been handled before in the forum, but I wasn't very successful at dredging up the old threads.
Any loft recommendations? I'm trying to stay near $1K for the sail.
For fast turn-around, I like North Sails. They stock C25 mains. I have been very impressed with their sail repair service, having had a Main sail and a Genoa repaired.
So, if you want to buy from a North American company that can fix what they sell, North is a good bet.
I recently bought a main sail and a 150 furling rig genoa from Quantum. Quantum uses the higher quality Challenge High Aspect cloth that stretches less than what many of the lofts offer that you see on-line. But you pay more for that quality. Quantum also custom makes the sails - They come down and size them. I went this route and I am very pleased with the sails. Quantum is also semi-local to me - Annapolis loft is about 1 1/4 hrs away. They mostly have their Dacron sails made in the South Africa loft. Quantum was responsive with the quotes and then setting up the boat visit. But it then takes a bit of time to get the sails made and then shipped - About a month after the dimensions were set.
But considering the new season is upon us and Catalina sails can be bought from as stock sails from many sail lofts and for less cost, you may want to go another route such as thru Catalina Direct (get them mostly thru Ullman), Cruising Direct (connected w/North Sails) or I understand that even Catalina Yachts may be able to provide you new sails. FX Sails is also worth checking out.
I bought a 135% from National Sail over the winter. While I wouldn't call it speedy service, I got it as promised in 5 weeks. They promised 4 - 6. The sail's made in Phuket, Thailand by Rolly Tasker. Price was great. I splash next week so, I'll find out then how it sails.
I also bought a 135% (in 5 oz. cloth) from National Sail. I hope to try it out this week, weather permitting. National Sail and The Sail Warehouse (which I've also used) both sell Rolly Tasker sails. Per the sail Warehouse catalog, a std rig coastal main (bag, 2 reefs, draft stripe, cunningham, 5.5 oz cloth, nylon headboard, 3/8" slugs and rope foot) is $850 plus s&h. Their offshore main is 6 oz cloth and $895 or $1,050 with full battens. Their OEM main is only $550 but it is 5 oz., 1 reef, no cunningham or draft stripe, $675 with full battens. Hope that helps.

Would that be a "bay" window?...Sorry, couldn't resist...
If your still considering Ullman sails hope your not in any big hurry. I ordered mine the end of February after being told the headsail was in stock and the main would be shipped out in a week or so. Received headsail 2 weeks ago and after talking with them yesterday was told the main may be shipped this Friday. I'm not holding my breath.
I bought an Ulman main from Catalina Direct, and was very pleased with it. I also bought a 150 genoa from them and didn't like it. The leech was too tight and had a permanent hook in it. I sold the sail and bought a new one from Crusing Direct.
