As I've said in other posts, I'm a newbe to the Cat 25 and am getting her ready to go back into the water. I've run into something else that I can't figure out. I have that nice guzzler hand pump in the cockpit. Since just about everything else on this boat has been touched, misplaced, or uncared for, I want to check everything. So I follow the intake hose to see where it goes.
Seems that the end of the pump intake hose is in this small compartment underneath the quarter birth and ends right around where the keel take up cable exits the hull. There is no opening from this compartment into the rest of the boat.
I looked under the two access plates in the middle of the salon and see that there is a space between the hull and the floor there. I also noticed that there is a drain hole from the head area floor into this space below the salon floor. But there is no access from this below floor space into the compartment where the intake hose ends. If this is correct, I could have 6 inches of water on the floor of the salon before anything ever got into the below quarter birth bilge intake. How is this supposed to be set up?

I had the same problem on my 1980 C25. What I did and what others have done is the following.

1. cut a hole through the bulkhead next to the keel cable tubing and then push the hose through into the portion of the bilge under the cabin sole.
2. cut a hole through the divider between the port settee locker and the main portion of bilge under cabin sole.

These holes are easy to cut as the FG is pretty thin.

Sounds like your bilge hose is in the right spot. That's where mine is too. The area at the bottom of the companionway steps and the quarterberth is the largest area of the bilge.
The bilge compartments under the cabin floor are small and are not all connected. It is a good idea to take up all the floor boards and see what's down there, check for damage and dirt, and to obtain a good understanding of the bilge on your boat. The bilge on our boats is not very big or very deep.
On my boat, I fully expect not to have any water in the bilge - if water consistently fills the bilge, I would pull my boat and fix whatever the problem is. The only areas of serious consequence where water has come into my boat is thru the keel cable pipe and thru the sink drain hose - both of which are by the bilge hose.
It would also be a good idea to make sure your bilge pump works - put the end of the bilge hose in a pail of water.

Hi Steve,

I have a '78 Cat and when I bought the boat the bilge Guzzler pump was loose and banging about in the bilge near the foot of the steps.

I inquired on this site regarding where the pump should be placed. I have learned, with help from others, that my pump most likely should be mounted on the inside cockpit wall on the port side, with the ingress tube reaching the area just below the steps of interior, and the egress tube connecting to a hole in the transom.

It makes sense that in the event causing my use of the bilge pump, I want to be sure to know where it is, and how it's connected.

I hope you find my text helpful.

Steve,

Here is the text from the manual located on this site ( see below ), I thought you may find it helpful.

MANUAL BILGE PUMP
The manual bilge pump is located in the port cockpit locker. The handle is stored in a clip fitting just
above the pump inside the locker. Insert the handle through the water-tight fitting in the cockpit to
operate the pump.
The pump pick-up is in the keel stub under the main cabin sole. The pump hoses are 1" I.D.

That's maybe where is should be but I can tell you that on my 78 there is no opening from the bildge under the quarter berth to the under the cabin sole.

This is where I cut my limber so I could drain under the cabin sole. I added a layer of 17 biax before I cut the tabbing to replace the strength. I epoxied a short piece of 1 1/2" PVC pipe to finish the hole nicely.
