I would like to replace all the lines (ropes) on my 1981 Catalina 25 it's a tall rig. Can anyone tell me the size and how many feet of line I would need to place the Main sheet, boom vang, traveler and halyards which are wire to rope. The Jib sheets I have seem to be in good shape. I was plannning on using Sta-Set X from West Marine.
More info needed. Are you replacing wire to rope halyards with all rope? Are your halyards led aft to the cockpit? I just ordered all rope halyards for our 1984 TR today and I ordered 5/16" Sta-Set X, 78' each, from Milwaukee Rigging, LLC on Ebay. I've seen other recommendatins for 85', also 5/16". Going from wire/rope to all rope halyards will require replacing the sheaves at the masthead. If you are staying with wire to rope halyards and your wire portion has thimbles, I would use 5/16" or 3/8", and 45' each should be plenty to lead back to the cockpit (mast 30' plus 15' extra). You could use anywhere from 1/4" to 3/8" for the boom vang, and 1/4" for the traveler lines and adjustable backstay. I use 3/8" for the main sheet and genoa sheets. Measure your old sheets and purchase accordingly. If you plan to use your working jib in heavier air, you might use 7/16" sheets for that sail, and leave them on the sail.
Google "Captain Eddie's Harbor" and click on his 1982 catalina 25 #2801, then click on Spec. He gives a whole list of all his lines showing size and length.
