A pair of Mallards has been hanging around the Fleet 7 dock the past months. Every time I wash the boat they come craving fresh water. Yesterday I was on the finger dock between Indiscipline and Mara and I saw an egg.

You see that old white box we use as a step to get on and off the boats?

Look what was inside.

She made a nest of a dockline!

I'll keep you posted.

I wish I had ducks for uninvited guests instead of what I've got. A woodpecker punched another hole in my upstairs dormer. I've already epoxied in another that he or one of his brethren did a couple of years ago. I let this one go too long & now I have starlings (I think) nesting in my attic. I can hear the chicks chirping away, so I know there are hatchlings in there. I can't in good conscious just go seal up the hole now, so I need to wait for them to leave the nest before I do. And then Woody will be back next year to punch another hole. Too bad they're protected, a round of birdshot from my .22 would take care of the problem. Although that wouldn't be so easy to do, he takes off the second he sees you. I tried placing a wind chime directly in his path, which deterred him for about 3-4 days before he realized it was just decoration for his favorite drumming spot. Guess it enhanced it for him as he seemed to come by more often afterwards. Grrr.

Hope your ducklings turn out well.

That is cool!

I wonder why those two eggs in the background are all alone?

Regarding your mainsail cover...Your fly is open!

A goose nested on some friends' bimini a few years back--one egg rolled off and splattered all over their deck (big egg--huge mess). Momma didn't want to leave until he pulled away from the dock and throttled up a little--she just sat and stared at him as poppa watched from the water. Once she had jumped off, he tossed the other eggs to the sharks. Too bad, but the only alternative was the boat would have to sit in the slip for a month.

She is abandoning eggs because she can't sit on all she laid. Thats why she pushed one out on the dock and those other two are in back.

We raise ducks and geese on the ranch at home, eating and selling the (fresh) eggs.

The mainsail cover does not fit over the spinnaker pole ring.
