Just checking with the collective wisdom of this forum before I do this. The weld on the foward stancion of my stern pulpit broke off cleanly, right where it meets the deck plate. Does anyone see any problems with having it re-welded rather than buying a new pulpit?
You should be able to reweld with little trouble. You described the weld breaking at the "toe" of the weld face. Being you'll be attaching back to a heaver base plate, this will help the welder with the repair. I would recommend finding someone who can TIG weld to made the repair. This will result in a clean weld and NO splatter in done on the boat.

Renzo, one of our CRCA club members had his welded last year for a very reasonable price. Check with J Pecha. The welder isn't too far from the marina. I am not sure anyone would would want to weld it mounted.
Thanks for the input everyone. I have an experienced stainless steel welder picked out, and I plan on removing the pulpit to have it done. I will definitely have him check the other welds while he is at it.
