I recently picked-up on what appeared to be follow-up discussion on something everyone was referring to as "Arlyn's softlink." I gather that it pertains to the tiller and motor. I think I missed out on the full discussion though. Can someone fill me in on what this is? What does it do exactly? Is it available and where? Thanks
The softlink is a simple system connecting the motor to the rudder so that the motor rotation follows the rudder.
Its accomplished simply by using a line between the aft of rudder and aft qrt of motor and a bungee between the other qrt of motor and an aft stanchion base. The bungee loads the motor away from the rudder and the line of course pulls the motor with the rudder. Very simple...easy to hook up and disconnect by using an eye strap aft on rudder and a snap hook on end of the line.
Allows the motor to be easily raised. A picture of the system can be found on the Trailer Sailor web site.
Hi! The article is buried, but it's there. If you enter "soft-link" and "Arlyn Stewart" in the 'SEARCH' window on the main page you can usually get to it. However, I have bookmarked a site that does a good job of describing the soft-link in words and photos. Try http://www.mindspring.com/~councill/myboat/rudder/ruddermotor.html as a link to it.
Hope this helps.
