Anybody know who makes the 4 1/2" compass on our boats?
Or where they can be had for the most economical price?

Daniel,

The Ritche Navigator 202 is 4 1/2 inches.

I'm not sure of the size of the Plastimo Contest 101, but these compasses can be read from both inside and outside.

As to where to buy one economically, try eBay.

I was hoping there was one with the corresponding angle to account for the slope of the cabin bulkhead so I don't have to put an adapter between it and the fiberglass.

The Plastimo has a model for our angle.

On second glance, the Navigator appears to require a hole greater than 4 1/2". (I read too fast ).

Like Frank said, the Plastimo can be mounted on angled surfaces...

From the Plastimo website for the 101...

<i>Comes as standard in a bulkhead version(vertical or 10-25° inclined bulkhead).</i>

Catalina Direct sells one that can be mounted on an angle. Could be a Plastimo, I don't recall.

I used a Richie Navigator for years with varying degrees of success. Biggest problem is getting the thing verticle so it will swing properly. I finally sold it in a yard sale. I now use the one sold by CD.

The Plastimo 101 comes in either a vertical bulkhead or an angled bulkhead. Make sure you get the right one.
The Ritchie Bn 202 does not work on an angled bulkhead very well.
Ritchie just came out with a new compass that is built specifically for an angled bulkhead. It is the Venture SR-2 and it looks great. And the best part, it's made in America. Goes for about $100.00.
