Hi all, especially SF Bay C25 folks.

Today, Wednesday, was the offical start of the Tall Ship Festival. At noon 35 tall ships, led by the three masted Equadorian training ship square rigger, paraded from the Golden Gate to the Bay Bridge. Hope you got to see it from the water.

The ships will be tied up along the SF Waterfront for 12 more days. Ought to be fun to sail past or tour on them.

My Buddy Paul switched days off so we could take his Sparky and my Hey Jude up to see them. Typical SF Bay day. Had to motor two hours from Brisbane north to the Bay Bridge, so little wind. Hoisted just past the bridge and one mile later had to take in the first main reef, then the second, put on wet weather gear. From practically nothing to 20kts and 4ft swells in a mile! The ships were neat, but only one real ship (three masts, square rigged). Counted five topsail schooners or various square rigs on the foremast. Also there was the reconstruction of the Nina, Columbus' flagship.

And boats! I have never seen so many of all kinds between Treasure Island and Alcatraz. Must have been several hundred. We needed a traffic cop!

The parade was preceeded and ended by SFFD fire boats spraying a display. Between gulps of salt spray and ducking I got some fair pictures (I hope.)

Poor Paul. He was single handing. I had two guests, one a sailor, one first-timer (bold). So I had someone to steer while I reefed.

Nothing broke and no one got hurt. A good day on the Bay.

Jim - That must have been fun. I was working that day, but managed to sail past a couple of them (docked) late yesterday.

I heard it was more like 40, gusting to 50+. Did you get into any of that?

Phredde,

Well, the weather guys said gusts to 30, seemed like more than that to us. We took a long reach from the Bay Bridge toward the east end of Angel Island in order to time the parade right. When we got in Hurrican Gultch it was time to take in the second reef. Fun.
