We found a new leak this weekend in the bottom of the lazerette! It appears the water is running down from the lower back portion of the wood panel that seperates the lazerette from the quaterberth. Could this be from the drain holes in the cockpit??? We have sealed everything in the rear except the traveler bar and the cockpit drains! Thanks in advance for any advice!! Jason and Fran
Is the water inside the portside cockpit locker or in the quarterberth area or the locker under the quarterberth????
Cockpit scuppers could be the problem. But, if the water is in the portside cockpit locker, the leak could be from the t-track for the jib/genoa cars, from the stern pulpit stanchions, the shore power fitting, winches mounted on the coaming, etc...... or even the deck to hull joint (although that's fairly remote).
Bill, the water is in the portside locker, pooling at the lowest point. We have resealed all stantions, and t-track. I don't think it is coming from the shore power, becouse we have done the chaulk test to look for water, and it is dry. The winch appears dry also. We sometimes get water on the shelf in the rear of the quaterberth. We know the motor mount is not leaking. Thanks!!Jason and Fran
If you have the thru-transom cockpit drains instead of scuppers in the floor, you could be getting seepage from around the outside of the flared brass tubes on the cockpit side. Hint: If there's no residual water by the drains (which are slightly higher than the floor) after some rain, guess where it went! Wiping some caulk of your choice around the flare with your fingertip should handle that. I had the same problem with the smaller tube that drains the anchor locker--the same technique solved it.
