I noticed my starboard shroud (the main one that goes to the top of the mast) is looking a bit weathered and the cables are starting to separate.

Has anyone any experience in replacing their shrouds?

If so,
a) was it difficult?
b) was it expensive?
c) where did you get new shrouds from?
d) any "watch outs" I should be aware of?

Thanks very much in advance.

Yup, nope, depends on what you mean by expensive, Catalina Direct, nope.

(What's it worth to not have the mast come down?) I found CD's price to be competitive, and their "kit" of premade stays was perfect out of the box, with bronze open-body turnbuckles.

What Dave said.

I've replaced a pair of something in my standing rigging every year. First year it was upper shrouds, the next year it was lower forward shrouds, next year it was aft lowers and etc. Makes the cost easier to swallow.
Next year I'm going to start replacing running rigging.

IMHO - if you replace one side, you should replace the other.

What Dave said.
Rigging is one of the few things I could buy locally but I trusted Catalina Direct more. I did have my lifelines made up locally.

Frank - Did you replace the standing rigging on your '89 ? or are you referring to your earlier (older) Cat 25 ?
