everyone has been so helpful. I still need to figure out what the
reverse polarity switch does. I have twin batteries and shore power
and a charger that seems to be hard wired (red) with the black clipped
to the ground? does anyone know? even the manuel does not reference
reverse polarity switch?

It sounds as if you have the same set-up as me. The reverse polarity switch are you referring to the switch to the port side of the main circuit panel?

If so that allows the shore power to operate the 110 outlets on my boat and power the charger, to replenish the batteries. However do not ever switch the batteries through the off position on the "guest swithch" while using shore power. I never switch between 1 or 2 batteries at all while using shore power.

I've about finished with my running & standing rigging, so the electrical system is the next thing I've got to tackle on my boat ... it is a MESS.

I've got a toggle switch in the same place you described, and it isn't labeled. I was in the port lazarette a week ago looking at the wiring, and I tried to figure out what it's for. Well, as crazy as it sounds, it looks like the toggle switch is an ON/OFF switch that controls the juice to the cigarette lighter outlet in the port coaming compartment ... <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

Why on earth would anyone do that? Maybe I just hallucinated that connection (I was breathing Tilex fumes at the time). What does the polarity switch connect to inside the lazarette?

12V outlet in the coaming compartment.... Now THERE'S an idea! I was about to put one by the electrical panel, but maybe I'll do both.

The weird switch in my boat is the battery on-off switch I put below the galley sink to disconnect the motor from the battery. It's a security feature--nobody knows what it's for except the Admiral and me! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

Reverse polarity is when the neutral and hot AC wires are backwards.

Has NOTHING TO DO with DC power.

Don... The old fishermen in our club don't know what why anyone would want one of them derned computer things... Even the three other C-25 owners don't follow this forum. <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> If you check slip C-30, you'll find the companionway locked--the switch is inside--but give me a call and I'll give you the combination. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Wow! Maybe that's the solution. I've got a non-functioning cig liter outlet and a reverse polarity switch...maybe they are some "custom" job.

So realy what we are saying here is no one knows what the switch is for. Here is my take on reverse polarity. I think the switch is ther in the event that you ever go south of the equator. Once south of the equator you flip the swich and bingo the water flushes backwards the electrons flow backwards and everything works normaly. If that little switch was not there you would just sail off into the Bermuda Triangle.
