Catalina move the jib tracks on the WK model outward at some point so they are now parallel to the boat's centerline. I noticed that when I was looking at a 2007 model that is in our marina. I called Catalina to confirm my observation. They sent a deck plan that somewhat illustrates the move. I also measured the new position as well as I could from the boat in our marina. Last winter I bit the bullet and installed a second set of tracks in the new position. I must say the jib trims much better now. I have the sheets outside the shrouds and feel the time spend installing the new tracks was well worth it.
I obviously still have a lot to learn but, I find it hard to believe that 2 or 3 inches toward the rail and a minimal change in angle has a significant enough effect on trim to justify the expense. What am I missing?
I think it has the same "Bang for the Buck" value as a lot of the other mods we make on our boats, especially when Steve reports, "I must say the jib trims much better now." Just last week I was watching my jib sheet rub continuously against the shroud and was thinking, "that just ain't right...". It's just too bad it's not practical to remove the old track (holes to fill, potential for leaks, etc.).
I don't remember what the tracks cost but they weren't expensive. I guess you just have to trust me when I say that I found it made a huge difference in the jib's trim.
