My sister gave me one of those a while back, I never even tried it. I should look for it. I also have one of the battery powered siphons, but it specifically says not to use it for gasoline, probably due to the electric motor sparking as it runs. I also have one of the squeeze type siphons that I've used for years moving kerosene from a five gallon tank to my heater. I've used it on the boat, but you have to be paying very close attention or you're going to spill fuel with it, and that was sitting in my marina, I can't imagine not spilling when you're in a running sea.

I really like the thought of a custom tank to fit in the tank locker, I'd guess you could fairly easily get a ten gallon tank to fit in there, and maybe twelve, I'd have to calculate it. I wonder if there are bladder tanks that'd fit that are already made? I know bladders are expensive though, probably $400 for a twelve gallon tank.

I dread the thought of being caught out in nasty weather & running dry, hence my current three tank capability. This has never happened, but we came close one day last year with 20kt winds on our nose. If I can help it, it never will.

<font size="1">Quote: "Sten, in a 250 the fuel locker location may need to be accessed as it is just above the wheel/rudder connection on boats with wheels. I am about to add Arlyn's open wire steering kit and I believe I'll be doing some of the attachment in the fuel locker. Still, even a portable 12 gallon tank fabricated for the space would be a nice solution. These 6 gallon tanks only take half the space."</font id="size1">

Stuff that can go wrong part dieu... Yeah, I always thought that the better solution was greater fule capacity and the fuel storage area supported a larger than commercially available tank. I always stored extra propane tanks there. Big bang theory. If you're goona go, make it a show. But yeah, why not a custom tank? How about permanently installed with a proper fill. The few C25's with inboards must have em?

I do not like the idea of refueling on the water so I start every cruise with 18 gallons of fuel. A six gallon Tempo in the fuel locker and a 12 gallon on the cockpit floor locked at the forward step. I bought a bulb, 10 feet of fuel line and a Tohatsu engine fuel connector. Using clamps I made up a fuel line from the 12 gallon to the motor. I burn from this tank first and use the six gallon in the locker for backup. When I get to the point of needing fuel in the 12 gallon I can usually fill it with the marina fuel hose or at home in the slip. With 18 gallons I can run engine only for 90 miles with a gallon reserve. That's about 18 hours, much more than I ever plan for cruises in one day.

Tank against the cockpit forward step.

Fuel line running starboard side to engine General at the wheel.

Look close at port corner of tank see locking bar end.
