My sheeves that are in the bottom and top of the mast are cracked chipped and worn out. So are the deck organizers. Does anyone know how to replace these and also what stock size and where to order new ones. RonE
The deck organizer is Garhauer on my boat. http://garhauermarine.com/ I contacted them direct and obtained replacement sheeves and bearings. The bearings were not an exact match for mine, the center bolt hole was larger, so I re-used my existing bearings which seemed to not have an flaws. Apparently my existing bolts are a bit smaller than the current Garhauer design.
The mast sheeves on my boat were aluminum. I've got no idea about what to replace those with (don't need to yet). I can measure them for you if yours are too bad to measure. Seems to me a lot of generic sheeves are available from many manufacturers, I'd expect something to fit right in without a problem.
I've been fussing with replacing the spacers between the mast base sheeves. I've only got remnants of something that used to be between the sheeves to keep the line from jumping off the sheeve. This has happened to me a number of times during Genoa hoist when the line jams between the sheeves and stops the whole operation dead, usually during a spinnaker dowse while racing :(
As far as I can tell, the spacer is a rectangular piece with a "V" knotch in the bottom and spans between the two pins that hold the sheeves on each side of the mast. I've developed a template and purchased some delrin sheet, but have not tried to cut one yet. If anyone else has some knowledge on this subject they want to share, I'd be interested.
You'll have to step the mast down to replace the sheaves at the head. I don't know how they are captured on the Capri 25, probably on axel shafts with clevis or split pins. I'm guessing that stepping is required to get at the lower sheaves also. Here is a link to Catalina Direct, this page shows they have all the sheaves.
Ron - I think you can access the lower sheaves without having to step the mast. There is a shaft through the three sheaves, with a split pin at the end. It is fiddly, but can be done.
Thank you for all of your suggestions. I am going to try one or all of the fixes but first have to find the replacement sheeves. I will let you know what works. RonE
