My speed sensor protrudes below the hull a good 1 1/2 to 2 inches. I sail on the Mississippi with lots of sand bars. I'm wondering if I will have a problem with this protrusion. Also the speed sensor insert has a slow leak, even though I lubricated the"o" ring before threading it in place. I'm afraid to unscrew it in the water for fear I won't be able to screw a plug in place fast enough. Has anybody done this? The cap was screwed on very tight, not cross-threaded, why is it leaking? Anybody know the cost of a hinged rudder for my C250WB? Like I said, I sail on the Mississippi with lots of sand bars. At the very bottom of my mast, a few inches from the deck, is a flat metal eye, with fixing screws above and below it. What is this used for? Thanks - Roger
Randy, I'll try to get a photo of the flat metal eye in the next day or two when I get back to the boat. I haven't posted any photos on this forum yet, so I'll have to see if I can figure out how to do it. Thanks - Roger
Roger, There are several threads on removing your speed sensor while in the water. Apparently it's not as frightening as it sounds. I've never done it personally, since I don't have the plug that would fit in mine if I did. You might try wrapping your threads with teflon tape (standard plumbing tape) to stop your leak.
I'd say Randy's guess about the fitting is a pretty good one.
Posting pictures in the forum is pretty easy, there are decent instructions on how to do so in the testing forum.
