A friend called me last night and wants me to look over a 2002 250 WK with him this morning. I've never been on one, is there anything I should look for? Thanks for the help
I've described mine as a plastic bucket with a stick. There really are no "systems" to speak of in the basic boat. Porta-potti is standard. If it has a head, that could cause irritations but not real problems. The WK doesn't have the worries of the centerboard system. No water ballast tank to leak. I guess the propane "system" could lead to difficulties someday but not in a 2002 model. I'd be looking for clues about how well the PO maintained it. That'll tell you a lot. Otherwise, looke for the same thing you looked for when you bought Fellow Ship. If you can take it out for a sail, you'll find that it is a little more "tender" than the C-25. That is it is happier in lighter winds.
General maintenance and make sure all the electronics work. Check that all lighting works, the the propane burner lights up, that the plumbing fixtures work, and that there is no water in the bilge. Check the condition of the sails. Make sure the outboard fires up and runs well.
As for sailing we have had numerous 15+MPH days this summer and find the C250 a blast. Out the other night in 20+MPH winds and had a great time. To enjoy all sailing conditions a good reefing setup is one of the things your friend will want to have so you can check that. My favorite is 2 line reefing.
But with a relatively new boat you're mostly looking to see if the owner took care of the boat. Not much chance of major problems. How much $$?
Thanks guys. The boat looked pretty good. clean and everything seemed to be in good shape. It does have a marine head with holding tank buy the boat was wide open when we got there so there was no odors. We test sail this week if we don't get rained out. Thanks again
