I have environment canada on my blackberry and refer to their website daily. They post wind velocity in KM's per Hour. I think that if they say Wind:Light that it is below 5KM/h. But I don't recall ever seeing anything other than a number on the right side of the colon :
I couldn't find anything definitive either... my guess is based on observing that they would change their forecast from 'wind light' to a specific number begining at 10kts.
Like: "Tuesday, wind light becoming NW 10kts during the afternoon"
What really sucks is when Environment Canada calls for "Light and variable", light winds are still sailable as long as they from a consistent heading, and have consistent speeds. Light and variable means they will shift both heading and power, never being quite enough to push the boat, and moving so that they are always in the wrong direction.
At least that is my experience.
How is th enew boat working out for you guys? Did you get a decent cruise in over the long weekend?
