I have used snubbers on my home port set of dock lines or over 15 years. Don't know the brand, but they are a round rubber rod with the line woven through a cone shaped modified Clam cleat on each end. I'm very pleased with the way they work.
I haven't tried using a rubber snubber on an anchor line. Seems to me such a snubber would need to be close to the anchor end of the rode for use in shallow water and/or short scope (where it would be of greatest benefit). This would put it close to the bottom, particularly in deeper water and longer scope. I'd be concerned about abrassion damage to the rode from dirt working between the line and snubber. Also, I think all the sharp twists and turns in the line at the snubber would reduce the breaking strength of the line.
I don't know what the brand is, but the one I've used on my mooring ball for the past 4 years is a Heavy Duty snubber, about 18" long, with four wraps between the ends.
Thanks, I plan to make up a new mooring pendant this next spring. I think I'll add a snubber before putting an eye on the boat side. It can't hurt to take some of the strain off the bow cleats.
