I need a new wind vane for my boat (2004 WK), but don't want to lower mast at this time to find out the thread size. Does anyone know the thread size? I think it is 5/16-18 but not sure.
I got a pair of windvanes from WM that twist on a shroud on each side of the boat, at any height you want. I love them, as they are a lot easier to see 1/3 of the way up the shroud, than trying to see on top of your mast. Try them, you'll like them. Roger
I definitely agree with Roger. On the shrouds, one for port, one for starboard, they are better indicators of wind on the main than one at the top of the mast. Also they're half the price of the Windex 15. At WM, ask for Wind-Tels Telltales, Model 390239. And you won't have to take the mast down or climb to the top of it.
Frank, As I recall you have them on your yacht and worked pretty good. But cant you get them cheaper at your boat store or better yet, at the swap meet! Steve A
A windex should be as high as possible to be in clear air. Telltales on the sail show you the wind across the sails. Cheap and easy is not a productive mantra with sailboats.

Ironic coming from someone who opted to sell his C25 in favor of a cheaper and easier to maintain cat.
