I have what I suspect are leaks originating from the port Genoa track. I haven't used the chalk method yet for a final determination but I can't imagine the water coming from any other source as it gathers in the port locker where my holding tank is located. (It is rain water so a leaking holding tank is not the problem!). I also covered the locker with plastic to keep out any water that might be leaking in from the the pop top or windows from entering as well. After the last heavy rain, more water appeared.
The rail would be a NIGHTMARE to remove and re-bed. There must be 30 screws/nuts to remove, many of which are not easily accessible.
Can I back off the screws as far as I can and squeeze some type of sealant in before tightening down?
James - if your port side toerail is the same as mine, there about 6 bolts that are unreachable (level with the galley). If you do back the rest off be very careful with the sealant as any excess will prevent the genoa cars from moving freely. "Experience is the memory of your last mistake"
I pulled each with a partner one at a time and sealed each and that was 25 years ago. No leaks since and with removing the deco wood and using a deep socket and a battery drill it wasn't to bad. The black water in the bilge that would appear after a heavy wind sail made the effort necessary. Also did each of the bolts and screws through the deck as it is very difficult to find just one leak.
