We held our annual Equalizer Regatta this past weekend (class racing only) with 25 boats entered: 13 S2-7.9's, 10 C-22's, 6 J-22's, and 6 Northstar 500's. This was a J-22 regional contest and the large number of S2's was, in part, due to the fact that this week we are hosting their National Championship Regatta. (the first time held in the south) So the Equalizer was a tune-up for them. They are expecting 25-30 boats total. I'll be on one of the chase/scoring boats, so I'll keep you updated as the week progresses. Racing is Thurs.-Sat. One of the guys here this weekend, and a frequent participant in our Equalizer, is a Canadian and Doyle Sails rep. He like that it is easy to get hockey tickets here, and the Preds won last night!
Could I get a STRAW VOTE here? Assuming this week goes well, who would be interested and willing to travel to Nashville for a major C-25/C250 event, either as part of the Equalizer or a separate contest like the S2's are doing? I must point out that our C-25 fleet is a fledgling fleet, non-racing, and somewhat disorganized, and I have not mentioned to them that I'm posting this question, but our yacht club is really getting interested in hosting major fleet events, so I'm fishing here.

Thanks for the quick replies, Dave and Al. Realistically, I'm thinking/dreaming about at least 2010, more likely 2011 or 2012. And I'm trying to feel out if we are centrally located enough to entice folks to bring their boats, too. Also, Dave, my invitation still stands. Call me when you will be in town and have time to go sailing. It's not too cold yet.
The S-2 Nationals get underway tomorrow. Weighed boats today and held 2 practice races this afternoon. total of 21 boats entered. Ran into Gary Sheppard today, former C-25 owner and racer at Lake Cheney. He says hello, Frank Hopper.
Hey! That half-hull... I've looked all over for a C-25 fin half-hull, and nobody lists it. (Swings and wings only.) Where can I get wunna dose (other than winning the Nationals, which I obviously can't do now, for various reasons...) Not the trophy--just the half-hull.
S2-7.9 Nationals in Nashville: I was on the weather mark chase boat, helping to set marks and record rounding times. As expected, Spike Boston, of Doyle Boston Sails in Ontario, Canada, took first place - for the 8th year in a row according to the rotating trophy. Gary and friends on Screaming Eagle took 7th out of 21 boats, on a tie-breaker with the 8th place boat. We ran 4 races on Thurs., two on Friday after a delay until 12:30 due to nasty weather, and two more on Saturday. For most of the regatta, winds were in the teens with some gusts up into the 20's. For at least 2 of the races, most boats flew 105's instead of their 150's. Friday's weather was miserable until around 1:30, when it finally quit raining. Saturday was a gorgeous day. After it was all over, I went out for a short sail before going home. Today, with a cloudless sky and the temp approaching 70, the admiral and I went sailing after church, using mainsail only, winds 6-12 and gusty. This was her first time out in about 3 months due to knee replacement surgery. May be our last good weather sail for the year. supposed to be in the 30's here tonight. Also, the Titans are on the Monday Night football ticket here tomorrow evening.
Unfortunately, our guys got beat up pretty badly also, coming in 11th, 13th, 17th and 19th. Tell you what, those sailors could really put down the food. It was amazing! It was also very interesting watching some of the boats getting weighed. A crane was rented and an electronic scale with a remote control device, belonging to the S2 Association, was inserted between the hook and the straps, and each boat was lifted a few inches off its trailer. Boats were weighed without any gear, cushions, or o/b, including even winch handles, and everything going back on the boat was weighed. All boats had to weigh at least 4600 lbs., including the o/b and I think cushions. Several boats had to add weight, one as much as 400 lbs. Saw one guy filling a dog food bag with rocks and taping it up with duct tape.
I really like 7.9s, I got to skipper Screaming Eagle in it's first regatta when it was still a dealer demo boat, they are beasts. I crewed on a Holder 20 demo boat that threw everyone out of the boat in a death roll broach. I miss the days of sailing demo boats, no one holds back.
