I am working on leaking window on my 1981 Catalina 25. I have read all the threads and ordered the weatherstrips from Catalina Direct. Now the problem begins. the windows on my boat differ from what information I have read about in other threads.
specifically:
The window frames only split on one end verses both ends
The window appears to be glued to the inner lip of the outer channel
The only weatherstrip is a small rubber strip that fits between the outer channel lip and the glass.
I called Catalina and Catalina Direct and they tell me that there is only one style window.
In examining other Catalina 25's the window frame and glass mounting are different.
Is anyone aware of a change in windows. Mine appear to be as old as the boat.
Can anyone suggest where I can go to get this outer seal. A crosssection of the seal appears to be a bit like a triangle with one side extended about 1/8".

Hi Roger,

It will probably be helpful to you to find out if your boat was actually manufactured by Catalina Yachts or another company. In the '70s and perhaps early '80s, Catalina would allow licensed manufacturers in Canada, England, Australia, etc to make boats to the Catalina design. There used to be a C27 from the Canadian company at my marina up until about 5 or 6 years ago.

The hardware choices from these foreign manufacturers often differed from Catalina mfg'd boats due to availability of parts. If your boat came from one of these sources originally, your choices might be pretty slim.

Check the HIN (Hull ID #). The mfg's name is abreviated as part of the #.

I recently saw a 1981 C25 with window frames of a different style from my 1980, which are apparently the more common type. The other ones on the '81 looked original, somewhat better made and as you indicate did not have the other (inner) vinyl spline ('weatherstrip').

I'm not aware of anyone selling the outer weatherstrip you've asked about. When I re-did my windows I used a rubber gasket material (caulking tube) that I purchased from an auto glass store.
You are correct about the glass being glued (actaully epoxied) to the outer frame.
