The rudder does seem like the weakest point. Another Fleet 7 member lost his rudder - the lower pintle broke. He was able to get in under power.
A friend here with a C25 SR (he's not in Fleet 7) lost his mast. The boat was a wreck. I helped him change the forestay one day. He did not have cotter pins or lower shrouds on either side (no forward lowers, no aft lowers).
He choose to take the boat out and motor around even with these parts missing.
One day, the forestay turnbuckle unscrewed and the mast fell down on him while motoring around the bay.
The mast was not lost, no one was hurt and I don't know the end of the story (like where the boat is now).

The camera is tipped to the left, so the boat is heeled even further than it looks. (Maybe it wouldn't be if that rail meat by the mast wasn't on the leeward side of the COG. )
Sorry to hear about your rudder misfortune on your outing.
I was curious as to which rudder you decided to purchase ? <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> [Delayed response since I was out of town for the weekend.]
Larry, I ordered a balanced rudder from CD. Can't wait to try it out.
