New Item. What is used to hold the stairway up at night. Let me clear that up a little, I'm looking for something Other than just a stick, that could be bumped and the hole thing come down on someone. Ya this is my 1st Catalina, picked it up this winter. Sailed a Hunter 23.5 for 12 yrs before, and Hobies for 19yrs, wind surfers, DN iceboat, well you get the idea. I've looked at this forum for the last 3 Mo's. You all do a good job helping each other. Oh, all forums have there "people", but, all in all, Catalina people, and this forum seem to help more than the others. Once again, Thank you for your help, and new idea's. Dave, We use our shorter boat pole & turn the hook down into the channel to give it some resistance to popping out. This works fairly well, and we've never had it come loose so far.
Welcome to the forum, and you're correct, the forum is one of the major reasons we decided on a Catalina 250.
Here is a thread on this topic. We use a 1X3 cut to fit exactly across the companionway opening. Because it is tight there is no way it will come loose accidently. We have used this quite a bit and it works.
