This year try attaching your lower aft shrouds, which will keep mast centered AND prevent it from going too far FWD, then attach Forestay.
After many years of struggling to get Forestay pin in with Back Stay already in place,I now put main halyard loosely to backstay adjuster "U" bolt on sole. After Forestay is secured simply tighten up om halyard and split back stay goes easily into place.

This works well for me. Good sailing.
