I'm just getting around to updating my blog, and loaded a video my wife shot of our splash.

I trailer launch, using a rope and rolling spare tire hub to get the trailer deep enough.

Note, the camera was a small digital, and it's a little shaky. But I was glad she remembered to video it.

Hope someone finds this useful, it took me a long time to figure out how this kind of launch worked when I first got my boat.

Great job!! I love the kids' enthusiasm. Every now and again I think about trailer launching "Iris", then shake my head and get on with life...

Fun video--sounds like the most excitement your kids can have on a boat!

Fun! Great to see the kids involved! FYI, we strap launch using 80' of strap to get our wing keel out deep enough. People at our club launch fin-keeled Catalina 25s and 27s using this method. Once you have the technique down you can apply it to deeper draft boats - assuming, of course, that you have a long enough ramp.

Fresh water is nice, too. Galvanized trailers are OK, but once you dunk one in salt, no matter what you do next, the clock starts ticking.

Dave -
You're right to a point, but I've had my 5-Star trailer for my 16 foot Sunbird since 2002, and its still fine.

What's the secret? Right after you launch it in salt water, that same evening, stop in at your favorite fresh water put-in and give it a good rinsing.

Only takes a few minutes and it maintains the trailer in good shape for a long time.

Still rust never sleeps, but you can slow it down a little.
