Many of you have probably read this book already but Maiden Voyage by Tania Aebi is a great read. Aebi, at age 18 took off for an around the world sail in a 26' sailboat. The day she departed from New York was the first time she ever sailed by herself. Over the next 2+ years she encountered all sorts of people, places, and sailing challenges while circumnavigating the globe single handed. The book is engrossing and made me want to head for the South Pacific.
Aebi now writes for Latitudes and Attitudes. I recommend this book - especially for all of you back East where it is raining and you can't go sail!
We cannot direct the winds but we can adjust our sails.
She wrote an ongoing account of her travels for Cruising World magazine as she made the trip. I read each episode longingly wanting to head to Tahiti. But, the Dad in me kind of agrees with Jim. Not very responsible parenting IMHO.
When I first read it, I thought it was inappropriate parenting. On reflection, I thought it was more about Dad's ego living vicariously through a daughter that he made famous. Her book and adventure, though, was a great read.
