The odometer has run out of digits, so after about 10 years here, I've run out of posts. Many thanks to Bill Holcomb, Leon Sisson, Arlyn Stewart, Duane Wolff, Frank Hopper, Derek Crawford, Val Bisagni, Steve Milby, all of the current and past officers and staff, and many others, for helping me decide on the C-25, know the boat better, take better care of her, become a better sailor and mariner, and get through a terrible loss in my life.
Passage is in the good hands of Bruce Ross (Voyager), I've gone over to the Dark Side, and I've said on these forums way more than I know (some of which I'm even starting to forget ), argued a little too much, and probably made too much random noise (using up my posts). Time for some other names to dominate the Active Topics list.
Carry on. Sarge out and standing by as a Port Captain on the Mystic River and Fishers Island Sound, CT.
Association Port Captain, Mystic, CT Past member and DPO of C-25 #5032 Now on Eastern 27 Sarge (but still sailing) and posting as "Stinkpotter". Passage, Mystic, and Sarge--click to enlarge.
HI Dave I just want to encourage you to hang around this dock and help out those of us who are still learning to to come into the slip at a speed less than you would want to hit the dock with.. I've learned a lot from your posts and all the other members. 9,000 entries is a whole gale of information, opinions, questions that have been appreciated by a lot sailors who sit on their rails and wonder IF.... I would like to see you continue , however if your mind is made up then sail into the sunset with the wind at your back and thanks again for all your inputs
Dave Just like my chevy nova - way back when - its odometer rolled over, but it just kept on going. It wouldn't stop (even when I hit the brakes). There's no rule that says you gotta go, in fact, I think I speak for most of us in saying we'd like you to stay.
Your wit, your keen observations and dead-on responses are all a big a part of what makes this Forum so interesting, and one of the reasons I became interested in the Catalina 25 a few years ago.
You can certainly do what pleases you, but it would please me if you continue in the Forum.
damnn! I knew I should have contacted you on Thursday night when I stayed in Stonington on my way to Newport! I agree with Bruce, you can take the boy off the boat, but the boat will always stay in the boy!
PS- I very well may be coming back through Fisher's Island Sound this week. Boat is holed up in Westport, MA, right now, awaiting motor repairs. My partner had a lot of trouble on his way to Cutty Hunk, including getting stuck in a lightning storm.
Dave, based on your wealth of thoughtful and helpful posts I suspect that you are not someone who takes actions without thinking them through. If your decision is to no longer post on the forum then I am thankful for the wealth of information that will be available to current participants and new sailors in the years ahead.
Well Dave I couldn't have said it better than Randy. Although I don't coorespond much I do read these frequently. I always waited for you to "weigh in" before I acted. Your voice, experience, knowledge and guidance will be be missed. Thanks for all 9,000.
Paul, I don't know about GB, but turning back the odometer is illegal in the States... Somebody might "Observe" you.
John: Withdrawn, for now... This is a hard habit to break. The odometer was embarrassing--now it's just embarrassing.
Rich: I'll e-mail a cell #.
Thanks guys... I noticed that immediately following my notification, Bill Holcomb stepped in with an all-too-rare (these days) post--a good thing! I'll try to emulate his more restrained participation.
Dave, I understand there comes a time to more on. You know you will be sorely missed. You have give us so much. Your leaving will create a huge hole and yes I am trying to make you feel guilty as no one will be able to replace your kind soul, your wit and the knowledge you have gained over the years. Thank you for all your sharing. I wish you much happiness and know you will continue to enjoy the life on the water. Steve A

Perhaps lobster at Abbott's, Mr. Port Captain?<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">Rich, I sent you an e-mail with my cell #, but you're blocking senders you don't know, and Earthlink won't let me fill in the form to allow me to speak to you.
Dave -- If I let "numbers" tell me when to stop or go, I would never have made it through school, landed a job, been married, had kids, etc, etc. That being said, you can have some of the thousands of digits from my post "odometer" that I will probably never have the knowledge or wisdom to use anywhere as effectively as you continually do.
OK, I'll take my fictitious post-count, keep an eye on things, and play "curmudgeon" when I think someone's off course. Time for this thread to fade away...
