Several owners have asked about making their tillers shorter. I will avoid the obvious comments.
Here is what I did.
It works great and I am really happy.
I used some 1/2" scraps of sea board, some longer bolts and needed to experiment a little with spacing to allow for curve.
If you don't have a tiller pilot pin you will need to add a bolt in the same place to keep handle from sliding out the back door. I use with the pilot a lot and this frees up the cockpit.

It looks like it's not only shorter, but the length can be adusted from almost the normal length to much shorter. If that's correct, it's a neat idea!

Nifty idea for a retractable tiller but I would bea bit concerned about the weakened stress points on the tiller assembly in heavy weather and following seas.

There seems as if there would be additional flex since starboard isn't but so rigid. Very clever idea!
