I needed a pick me up since the Compac 27 deal fell through so this weekend we attended the Pirates on the Pungo Regatta which is held each year to raise money for our small local hospital.

We left our dock Friday morning and headed for Belhaven Waterway Marina where we had reserved a slip for the weekend. Its a 24 mile one way sail from our house. Once we arrived and docked, the marina personal informed us that there would be no charge for the stay. It was their way of contributing to the cause. Friday night was a reception, entertainment and lots of free cold ones. Saturday morning we attended a skippers meeting and they gave me a PHRF of 225, what ever that means (I'm not a racer and have no idea). Maybe one of you racer types can explain.
We followed all the boats (24 of them) to the starting line and at 11am they raised some flags and blew a horn and off we went. The wind was blowing pretty good. I thought I was doing okay, I wasn't last and far from first. The course was 12 miles long, and about haft way the wind died and the Tall Rig kicked in. Slowly I started passing the boats that had passed me at the start. We passed quite a few of them before we crossed the finish line. I had no idea what place I finished. That night there was a dinner and band with more entertainment and more cold ones. After dinner they announced the results and to my surprise I finished 3rd in my division even got a little trophy too. Maybe next year I'll lighten her up a little.

Your story reminded me of Chevy Chase's character in Caddyshack, he played golf just for the fun of it and didn't care about the score, except he usually won.

Good for you Tom, sounds like a great way to spend a weekend.
