A member asked me to post more photos of my mid-mast support. It is mounted on the mast step for when the mast is stored for travel and winter storage.
Here is the unit at work. Note that the unit is bolted to the mast step:
Here is the unit which is made of 2" PVC pipe. It is comprised of two "T" sections, one Elbow and two Straight pieces The long straight piece is 19 1/2" and the short one is 3 1/2". The straight pieces get pushed into the "T"s and the Elbow.
Here is the bottom "T" with the hole drilled for where the long bolt goes to secure the unit to the mast base. This uses the same bolt as the mast uses when deployed.
Here is the top which consists of a "T" and Elbow. The mast rests on the resultant "U". The surface that the mast rests on is 25" from the bottom of the unit (mast step).
Once the mast is resting on the unit I run a line through the upper parts of the pipes and over the mast to secure the mast:
Note that having the upper "T" project to port results in a nice alignment with transom mounted mast crutch which is port of center and the trailer mast support which is centered. We have traveled about 1500 miles with this setup and it has worked perfectly.
We cannot direct the winds but we can adjust our sails.
