hello all. I just purchased a 1980 c25 SR, swing keel, I sailed her for the first time all the way home.. 75 miles without a hitch. I am super pleased. I stopped along the way to check everything little by little. I have a quick question about the anode on the swing keel. I take it it is the round piece attached to the keel with a bolt. Now as i was cleaning the keel i noticed that it appears the only thing that is left of it is a rusty "footprint" of where it used to be. Can that be? has it rusted away? is there a procedure to replace it? and how urgent is it? i plan to take the boat out f the water in a couple months to re-do the bottom. should i wait till then to replace it?

I'm sure that i'll have many more questions and pics in the days, weeks, months to come ;)

thanks
marco

Zincs are installed so that they corrode rather than the metal part they're attached to, that's why they're called sacrificial anodes. Sounds like you need a new one.

Charles is correct Marco. It sounds like you need to install a zinc. They "wear away" as they help prevent electrolosis from eating away your boat's metal surfaces that are in the water.

While you are installing the new zinc. I'd say replace the keel cable as well as the turning ball in the keel cable tube. Check out the brochures section of the website to see a picture of this.
