I'd like to get these ordered before heading out to the boat and haven't seen it mentioned here before. What radius size boots do I use? West Marine has 3/4", 1 1/8", 1 1/2", and 1 3/4".
Thanks!

Oh man, those are awesome! Little expensive though. Arg, why did you have to show me those? lol I'm gonna have to save up for them instead. Or there's Christmas. ;) lol
Which size would I need for those? It should be as easy as unscrewing the old turnbuckle and screwing these on right?
The best part about these is the turnbuckle itself is bronze (or silicone bronze) so they won't seize with the stainless stay ends. You lock them with a nut instead of a cotter pin. The covers are much smaller in diameter and won't pick-up dirt the way PVC does. Please post the diameter sizes here when you find them as I need to order an entire set . . . they do make great stocking stuffers!
When I originally purchased Utopia she had PVC tubes that slid down over the stays to alleviate wear on the genoa. The turnbuckles were the original style that lock with a locknut. One day while out sailing I noticed one of the stays hanging loose on the leeward side of the boat. It had unscrewed due to the locknuts backing off and my lack of attention to it which was elevated due to the lack of visibility caused by the shroud covers. "Out of site, out of mind." Now I prefer turnbuckles that can be wired and do not tape or cover any of them to the point I can not readily do a visible inspection of them. Just a point to ponder.
After a couple of years, I removed the PVC turnbuckle covers. They are too low and inboard to protect against headsail chafe; I can inspect and hose off the turnbuckles; what's the point? BTW, I use circular cotter rings -- and no, I've never had one work loose -- which prevent any snagging.
Jonathan, I first saw these on a Capri 22 - they caught my eye immediately. You will truly like the silicone bronze turnbuckle also.
As for the nut coming loose - I did place a lock washer between the turnbuckle and nut. I suppose if one does a lot of motoring the nut could come loose. A drop of blue Loctite would be a good measure.
My type A personality does not allow for cotter pins!
