I've read on this forum before about replacing the original attachment point between the keel and the keel cable. Catalina Direct sells a replacement part for this and says this about the replacement: "This retrofit bracket is used to replace the old style eyebolt used on pre-85 C-25's. It eliminates the problem of tightening the eyebolt and finding out the hole is not in the right alignment for the keel cable."
My question is, is it necessary/desirable to replace this part? I looked at mine and it seems to be a)really really stuck in place this being an iron keel and b)working perfectly well. If this is working well as is, should I still consider replacing it?

As long as it is sound and not corroded you should be OK. I would definitely change it out when replacing the cable, but to risk breaking the eyebolt and having to drill and tap the keel when the system is solid is certainly a downside.
