Just bought a new Aqua Signal 25 Anchor lite today and plan to replace the bulb with LED. The positive end of the bulb is at the top of the fixture as labeled on the inside.
Checking the Dr LED website, the bulb is 1 1/4" diameter, no way that will fit the AquaSignal 25 Anchor light, probably the maximum diameter would be about 3/4 inch.
I had the same problem with my aft all around light - the fixture appeared too small to hold the Dr LED lamp. Turns out the Doc came up with an offset pair of electrodes that attach to the primary terminals on top and bottom of the lamp. The offset allows the bulb to be positioned away from the internal terminals, so that it will fit in the fixture.
The same approach is used in the mast-head fixture. I positioned the connectors so that the bulb sits level and flat in the fixture, since the beam is essentially focused into a disk-shaped plane that emanates up to 2 miles in all directions. If the bulb is tilted, the beam's throw will be substantially less than 2 nautical miles in certain directions.
The mast light has to be level to provide a uniform beam as an all around light.
I might just use my lantern up a halyard as a backup . . .

Was thinking about my daysailor - I had a white light on a stick connected to the stern. An all around light
Voyager has a 180 degree stern light, but since it uses the same Dr LED lamp as the anchor light, the offset electrode mounts were necessary for me to mount the light in the sternlight Aqua Signal fixture.
I bet the guy who jumped out of the cherry picker into the bosun chair had had experience on a tall ship. They are very safe on these, except sometimes for the paid crew. Did you ever see the video of Irving Johnson walking a yard on the Peking back in 1929. Amazing!
