Writing from Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, AL:
We've been here 2 days, no swimming in the gulf or recreational boating allowed. Fortunately the condo has a pool. A friend of the admiral's is letting us stay here. However, the condition of the water has been a lot better than we expected. The beach and water clean-up crews are doing a good job. We've seen small droplets of oil here and there but no large patches as yet.
Noy too many people here, feels like off-season. Should be lots of good deals available right now.

We have church visitors who live in Slidell, LA, 30 miles from the gulf, who say they can smell the oil at home.

Must be a lot worse there. Little to no oil smell here. Driving down, I was wondering if we would be leaving the next day. The admiral is from Mobile and was getting beach "fever", so we came. The one real odd thing has been the lack of birds, seen very few. Did see one gray herron while walking on the beach last evening, got within about 30 ft of it.

I hear BP has added a complementary seafood buffet at their stations. They closed the big pool? Bummer... How are the Sunsets? Redish?

I wish I could sit up at night and listen to the marine radio down there. Probably hear some pretty funny lines, as well as the despair.

Interesting to get a report. Stay Thirsty my friend...
