Making some mods to the traveler set up. Adding more purchase and raising the traveler track. Have any of you raised the track and if so, how much. I'm thinking flush with the cockpit seats. Any suggestions?
I changed over to Harken Hi Beam track #2709 and 2702 Micro Car. Had to sand out sides of seats where track bolts down so that car moved smoothly side to side. Had modification re-gelcoated. Looks factory and works well.
Might need to look at some pictures for this issue. I don't know how other travelers are mounted, but on my boat the traveler is mounted on two teak blocks located in recesses in the seat on each side of the boat. The bottom of the traveler bar is flush with the top of the seat fiberglass ( with cushions in place, the top of the traveler is more or less flush with the seat cushion). We do not race with the cushions in place so the traveler is an obstacle on the seat. Hope that is clear enough, I'll take a better pic of mine tomorrow when I go to the Lake.
We just installed new Harken travelers on our 2 Capri 25's. We purchased Harken Hi Beam tracks with the hidden bolts on top of the existing Capri OEM track. We used Harkens windward sheeting cars which, after you use them, will be your traveler of choice for the rest of your sailing life. They are rather pricey, but considering they will last easily the life of the boat, are well worth the cost. The whole installation took less than 2 hours and look terrific. If you need more information or pictures let me know and we'll provide. Jim Carlsen Capri #279 Lakota Capri #228 Tranquility Base
Thanks for all the info. Going to raise the existing track flush with the cockpit seating. Windward sheeting is on the list of mods but isn't in the budget right now. We often sail short handed and self tailing winches are at the top of the list of new equipment. Gotta keep the crew happy even if it empties the owners pockets.
