From the class rules:

(1) Luff - The length of the luffs shall be taken as the distance between the highest point of the sail and the foot measured around the edge of the luff. The dimension shall not exceed: Tall Rig - 31' 1"; Standard Rig - 29' 3 1/2".
(2) Girth - The maximum shall be measured across the widest point of the sail between points equidistant from the head. The dimension shall not exceed 18' 10 3/4".

Good question!

When I ask sailors I know who own current/recent "production" boats about buying their sails all seem to have "standard" measurements for main and head sails but no one seems to when it comes to the spinnaker. Seems their are more options based on type of spinnaker, local conditions, sailing style (racing vs cruising) etc., etc. Then many end up buying used sails from other types of boats -- which fit none of the above -- but works! Which leaves me asking "is their a standard size for spinnaker for any boat?"

Most online used sail brokers break it down for you and show all sails within a similar luff range. If the price is low enough then I say go for it. Just do a search for used sails and put in the luff measurement and see what you get. I will share the best online resource later... I am getting ready to buy a really nice used spin this weekend but don't want you sausages beating me to it! ;0|

I have 3 spinnakers

30 x 18 x 0.75 oz this is a sail that can really overload the boat in 12 knots of wind +

29.5 x 16 x 0.5 oz this is a good all around size

29.5 x 14 x 0.75 oz this is the chicken chute. It is great when it is really blowing. I've had Indiscipline up to 8.8 knots surfing big waves in 20 knots + on the beam with this sail up.
