I am outfitting my Venture trailer with a "winch perch" for the fall haulout, and looking for a design I can build myself. Trailer presently does not have a bow winch and I have been using a tow winch from 3 ton tow truck with a 20' trailer extension (does not work well, as winch is too low) I have seen other 250's with this mod and not sure if it was purchased as a "third party" addition or from the trailer mfg. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks
Thanks Jim for your reply--I did look at previous posts and the "Road King" winch stand. I have a sailboat mechanic who need the work at this time, so I will have him fabricate a square tube post design similiar to the Road King design. I will post pics when complete. Bob
Bob, I have ordered a plain, without ladder, winch post from trailnsail.com. It should arrive next week. If you need some pictures or measurements email me at jbkayaker msn com (with the appropriate punctuation inserted). If I were designing a post I would add a brace or wire stay to take some of the load off of the connection to the trailer. For instance a cable with turnbuckle could be attached from a point a few feet up the post to a point on the trailer a few feet forward of the base of the post. I may do that with the one I have ordered.
