This is a hard post to write. I am no longer a C25 owner, having sold Novia to SLINGERLAND, who has been posting on this site. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this organization. I just renewed my membership and have no intention of disappearing quietly into the darkness. The reason for the sale is pretty valid,I think. There are three of us who sail together on our little lake, about 9 miles long by 1-1/2 wide. None of us really likes to singlehand and so we go out in rotation. My boat this time, yours next, and so forth and then there is no wind. One of my friends has owned his boat since 1984 (J-27) the other has a nice Cal 33 bimini and dodger--our comfort boat. But somedays there is just no wind. And some days we would like to go fishing and be able to get up closer to the bank and so forth. So I'm looking for a pontoon boat. We will see what happens. The biggest power boat I have ever driven was a 8 1/2 foot dinghy.
But I will be around. This is the best site on the web and it is always the first thing I fire up when I come on line.
For info: I will be posting on the swap meet some spinnaker gear, and maybe a few other things.
For those of you who read SLINGERLAND's last post, yes, that is Semco oil on the teak. I have never tried Cetol or straight varnish but have used almost every variety of oil and like Semco best. I do NOT like their stripper. It is far too caustic. I will stick with TSP and Oxalic acid.
All the best to everyone. If next year I get tired of stinkpots I will probably buy another C25, largely because of this association.
That makes sense. You'll then be able to sail with your pals when there's wind, or fish whenever you want!
I find it hard to get into fishing from my sailboat, because the calm windless minutes for casting bait or trolling slowly are usually ruined by new gusts. I think very few of the stripers in the Bay here like to chase umbrella rigs at 5 knots!
I can't say enough good things about Capt'n Calhoun! The Saturday after we signed the papers on Novia, he and I met on the boat, and he walked me through from bow to stern... we attached the jib, hoisted the sails, tinkered with the engine, and he told me many details and experiences about the boat that have already been invaluable.
I've scheduled my ASA basic class for my family during the first weekend of October, but it's hard to be patient. In fact, I haven't been... the past two Saturdays we took the boat out for short hops across the lake from the marina and back. My wife is nervous about getting too far from shore until we've had better training.
Chuck, you know you ALWAYS have a guest's berth with me! And I'll see you around at Roger's!
I understand, we have very good friends who keep their powerboat at a marina just a few miles from us, and sometimes a powerboat fills the bill. Walleye fishing, or tying dollar bills to your hook, would be a challenge from a sailboat, and perch fishing wouldn't be much better.

Sometimes the Dark Side is what works... and you still get to sail!
Share and share alike. My best bud in the Power Squadron has invited me to fish with him on his 26 ft power boat. He and I sailed Passage early in the season, and he got a real kick out of it (even though it was 15 kts slower than his boat)
You know Dave, one of these days before the season ends, next time you're driving down the HCM Trail, I think you ought to show me how to sail Passage!
