I see from our Web Calendar that the Newport Boat Show was this weekend.

Any reports, pics, attendees?

(Really I'm just trying to get folks to visit the Calendar! )

Paul, while I posted the calendar entry for the Newport Boat Show, I did not go, since the weather was PERFECT for late summer sailing.

I will just have to satisfy myself going to the Norwalk CT boat show next week.

Had the weather been chilly & dank, I would have been in Newport. Did anybody else make it up/down there?

Nope--I'll hit Norwalk Friday. I don't expect many sailboats, although they've been getting a few more in the last couple of years. It's mostly guzzlers.

I'm hoping for a "show special" on some gizmo I didn't think I needed.

Have you seen the guy who sells the soft side coolers? Keeps ice for a week, and on the inside it's twice the volume of outside. Just amazing! And if you fall overboard, you can use it as a life jacket! It has 1001 uses - it slices - it dices and make julienne fries!

Then there's the guy with the metal cleaner in the pint bottle for $20. Or get the large economy quart bottle for $50 and save money. It'll clean bronze, brass, stainless, copper, lead, pewter, iron, nickel, cobalt or plutonium - you name it, it'll clean it.

Bruce, et al... Norwalk is even more of a dud this year--smaller than last year, considerably fewer gear vendors, no Catalinas, just a hand-full of sailboats including one big Island Packet. Lots of center-consoles, Azimuts, Sea Rays, Regals, etc... and a Hinckley Picnic Boat--an amazing museum piece. Ray Marine, Garmin, WM, and Defender weren't even there. $10 parking and $12 admission for essentially nothing... Think about how badly you want to waste $22 (plus gas) instead of sail.

Dave, Sounds like my Lido Boat Show, in Newport Beach, CA that's going on now. A local writer said in paper today that if you are a sailor, don't bother going as there are only 5 sailboats! One would think with the economy those big, multimillion $$ boats would be a hard sell. Guess not for Newport Beach, which was just rated most expensive homes in the country. There is definitely a bubble around that town.

Dave
Thanks for the heads up. I spent the afternoon sailing around Stratford and Milford on some 10-15 SW-erlies.
I got a free ride against the outgoing tide up the river too.
This weekend, I'll be up in Mystic at the art museum with the Admiral, and out fishing with my daughter on Sunday.
