It's a mixed time of year. Haul out is imminent within the week as the weather can turn any day, but the sailing at the moment is phenomenal. Crisp air, crystal clear skies, the hillsides at near peak color, geese overhead, and steady winds. This past Sunday, the Admiral and I sailed with a single reef, 135 head sail and traveler down at 6+Kn for hours in 12-18Kn winds....we didn't run out of wind, we just got tired...doesn't get much better. Love my C25...and fall sailing.

First, however, a beginners question with regard posting pics to the web (e.g. Picasa). Do I have to resample the original pics (1.x M) to something a bit more friendly or is that automatically taken care of when pics are uploaded?
Pics are strictly WYSIWYG on this forum - so a 240 x 180 is small (good for signatures), 640 x 480 is medium (fits nicely on the page), 1024 x 768 is large and 1280 x 960 is huge (not good for the forum). If you have a PC and you right click the photos, you can get the resolution in "Properties". Most image processing programs and applications allow you to resize your photos.
If your camera is set to 1024 x 768 (or thereabouts), you'll get large pictures you can down-res. Nice thing with that is if you want to crop the big picture to zoom in on a feature, you can do so and still have reasonable image detail afterwards.
Using the escape sequences [ img ] and [ / img ] (without spaces), with the full web address in between allows you to post your pictures from flickr, picasa or shutterfly......
Our boat, your ex neighbor Encore, was pull-out saturday from the water to go on it's cradle for the winter. Sunday was time to put the C25 winter coat on. Was looking at some sailboat going on the lake, and was nice with the colors in the trees in the back ground. But in the morning, we had frost on the deck sunday.
Bruce - thanks for the tips Patrice - greetings...Great Escape gets hauled out on Friday. Predictions look good for getting it covered over the weekend. Once the scramble is over, I'd like to put out a query to anyone who sails the lake to post a few pics - a Lake Champlain sailing venue! Interested? If you're ever in the Burlington/Colchester area, give me a call...we'll go for a sail (next summer) or grab a coffee/beer.
Even though PiSeas II is in her slip all year round, I can understand where you are coming from. Last week and up until couple days ago, it was raining here. I thought to myself, "time for yearly removal of the bimini". Well unfortunately, another heat wave coming tomorrow and thru the next 10 days. I say "unfortunately, cuz I was looking forward to the cool, crisp days of fall, as much as we have a fall in SoCal. BTW, I don't actually remove the bimini, I remove the cover/top and fold back the hardware and cover it up. Steve A PS I feel for the "Blues" you feel re haul out. As a port captain, any of you in this position are welcome during this time of woe.
Weather is supposed to be beautiful here in Houston this weekend. Not a cloud in the sky for the past 2 weeks and cool with low humidity.
Only problem, the winds have been almost non-existent on the weekends. Sounds like they might start picking up this weekend with some clouds moving in Sunday.
One way or the other I am going sailing this weekend. I don't care what kind of melodramatic event happens around the house.
Gary We've had rain all week but this weekend (we have a 3 day weekend with Columbus Day) we'll have cool sunny dry conditions.
Problem is we might have a little too much wind. This afternoon, my son and daughter wanted to go out with Dad. We had 15 kt winds with gusts to 25. So we motored out of the river, drifted downwind under bare poles for a while. We had some pretty good big rollers out there. Then we motored back to the harbor where the wind settled down to about 15 kt without gusts.
We unfurled the jib 1/2-way and reached back up the river.
Tomorrow and Sunday we should have 10-15's without gusts, so sailing should be fantastic. I plan to overnight along the Connecticut coast somewhere.
October 12, 2010 - Went for a sail today, Weather: 60-65 degrees Farenhight, wind SSE @ 8-10 knots, Clear skies bright sun. Only one or two other boats on the water. Had a couple of beers and a shot of bourbon to celebrate the day, toast the setting sun and in rememberance of old sailing buddies. Then sailed up the river on a beam reach half way to the dock before the shore buildings and trees blocked the wind and forced us to start the engine. Life is good, Fall sailing is the best and I will not take the boat out for at least another two weeks.

Last night was awesome. Date night with my wife. No kids. Just wine, cheese, my honey and a nice breeze. Sunset sailing and then the moon came up. Night sailing and relaxing.

Thank you. Racing tonight on the C-27, 18 knots predicted.
This is a picture of me at the helm of the boat I race on Wednesdays, Joint Venture, a Catalina 27 owned by my buddy Keelan. He has me driving the boat for the Fall Series of Wednesday Night Races. Since I've been at the helm we are undefeated, 4-0 first place finishes which is kind of unreal in boat racing. We are all clicking as a crew, Keelan is still the skipper and tactician and I know how to make a boat go fast. :-)
Last night's race was incredibly exciting, and we barely squeaked out a win over a Catalina 30 named Carpe Diem. We had a great start, they caught up with us ion the first leg, we rounded the mark together and from then on we were neck and neck the entire last leg of the race and had a photo finish which means we win due to PHRF rules. There are 2 more races, we might carry the season undefeated with all first place finishes. As it is, we've locked up first place in "B" Fleet for the series.
As an aside, for those of you that are newer to sailing, getting into racing like this is incredibly easy. If you are near a marina where there's any kind of racing boats are ALWAYS looking for crew, even if it's just rail meat (You don't have to do anything, your weight helps keep the boat level). If you know anything about sailing you might be used in the pit or on sheets. All you have to do is go down to the docks and ask.
here's pic of Stephanos, playing around on the lake a week ago
