Ruth and I plan on sailing this weekend. First chance we get we will be out. Perhaps even an overnight at Docton on Vashon Island Wa. I need to check out the diesel heater anyway. Anyone else have boating plans for the holiday weekend? God wouldn't thanksgiving aboard be wonderfull.
Going down to the lake Friday to reinstall the countertops and hopefully get in a weekend of sailing if the weather holds up. Supposed to be in the 60's. Let's hope there is wind.

Puget Sound weather might just hold through the weekend. If so I'll be out at least one of those days. Maybe even Dockton. Where are you moored these days Doug? Back at Foss?
Ya, I think I'll go to the boat. Shovel of the snow, uncover the cockpit, and spend a night or the rest of my life in 18 degree weather. Let's see I could start a fire with the teak . . ..
Today (Thanksgiving) promises to be a beautiful day in our neighborhood, and with the our son and his family coming it will be a day to be thankful for. But no sailing for us today.
Once upon a time I did race my Laser this weekend, in a blizzard. The Laser fleet of the Erie Yacht Club matched raced in the harbor, and it was cold! the best part of the day was when it was over and adjourned to the fire around the bar. No we didn't light, but the one in the fireplace!

Doug. Im probably only a few feet from your boat. If you are on your dock, look across to the travel lift Im in the first slip. West side in the single slip right next to the travel lift. Grey/blue hull classic looking boat Triska. If Im down there Ill be the one who looks broke hahahahah. Wount be down on Turkey day though. The wife will need moral suport while cooking all day.
Our tradition is to spend each Thanksgiving weekend aboard our boat . . . two days, two nights. The weather in Austin tomorrow looks great!
.SATURDAY...PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 60S. NORTH WINDS 10 TO 15 MPH. .SATURDAY NIGHT...MOSTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 30S. .SUNDAY...PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGHS NEAR 60.
I can understand Don not wanting to sail in 28 deg. weather but 38? What the heck if its windy with no rain. Thats what cold weather gear is for. At 20Kts of wind Triska would be just starting to move along nicely. It takes a bit of wind to heel her 5.4 Tons. Not much sailing going on here though. We are fog bound until the huigh pressure ridge moves off of the Pacific Northwest. Its a sweltering 39Deg outside and if the fog lifts Ill be on the water.
I'll be on the water as well! Unfortunately, it will be in the slip...Have to re-assemble the aft port window and reinstall and install the new mast gates (Joe sure does do beautiful work!). Last weekend it was replace the masthead halyard sheaves and rebed the lower gudgeon and the port chainplate. It's always something! But we are racing again in 2 weeks!! Last time out was the big Wurstfest Regatta - we lost first place in Non-Spin by .04 seconds...just gotta try harder! Derek
Doug, Was up to the lake the other evening, but couldn't see the water, but I suspect if its not yet it will soon take another form - ice, but maybe not enough to walk on. And, our lake has another problem. In the winter it is lowered to take the spring melt which will fill it up again. Not only are boats out but docks too.
Ya, 38 is doable, with storm gear, and all. but once on the hard, we all stay on the hard until late April. So your saling stories, and the sailing stories from the south drive me crazy. And, then you have to go and show us Triska. She sure is a beauty!
Seriously, I hope you were able to sail, and that it was a good day.

The weather isn't exactly what is stopping me, it's wetted surface....I don't have any.

Weather has been in 60s very nice. Will be on SF Bay tomorrow. Now if there is some wind we will sail. It's hit or miss this time of year for wind. Otherwise, we'll just enjoy being out on the boat.
"Wetted surface" those are the words I was struggling to find. Except I have it in the wrong place, on the cover

I winterized "Even Chance" yesterday. When I got to the marina, they were bleeding the water lines, because there had been a surprise freeze Thanksgiving night and one of the lines had burst. My 17 year old outboard had refused to start on the way in a week ago, and wouldn't start again today, so I thought this was a sign that it was time to clean out the boat.
I do visit the boat regularly during the winter to check on lines and do a little maintenance. I finally bought one of those solar powered day/night ventilators, because belowdecks has been drenched with condensation this Fall. I just need to figure out where I want to put it for maximum effect and minimum ugliness.
Just got back from a wonderful day of light breeze sailing under clear skies and upper 50's. There were 4 or 5 other sailboats out including a very fast looking Santana 525. I put the spinaker up and let the wind push me up the lake. Mostly 2 to 3 knots with one exilerating 4+ knot period. I just let Scotty the Autohelm do most of the work and read. Even saw a bald eagle giving me the once over as I passed his perch in a dead pine tree. Back to work tomorrow and the start of the very busy Christmas Season. Probably no sailing until after Christmas.

It was 15-20mph (a few blasts up to 30)(I was on board my neighbors 33 footer for that stuff) and cold on saturday's sail at around 47 degrees, but we sailed til 4am and it was 28 degrees at that time with 10mph consistent north winds. We leisurely beam reached up and down the lake drinking irish coffees. Installed my new countertops and other small pieces and ripped out the vanity to redo this week. What a great time, that dodger and autopilot make such a difference to be comfortable. I just got all comfy with my coffee and the autohelm control panel and stayed nice and warm (ish) Hope all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend, it's back to the grind now....

Never made it out of the slip but what a nice thread this has been. Thursday through Saturday it was like dusk all day. Heavy fog with no weather moving through to clear it out. 38 Deg. Sunday we awoke to sunshine and headed for the boat. NO WIND. We had several visitors aboard as we bumped into Doug from NOETA. He was doing his winterization. Ruth put up a couple of new curtain panels and I gave Triska her first good wash since getting her home from Vancouver B.C. Man am I sore but It was a good day. Any day being on the boat is good even if its just to sit and watch things. It feels good to know Triska is now on her way to being clean. No winterizing for me. Every moment of every day all I think of is getting out on the water. I do keep a small heater on the boat with a thermostat set to keep her interior free of the damp or cold. Is it Friday yet ? Thanks everyone for your great input. One last comment for Ken and Betsy. I would be there with you dear friends but we cant all be retired, foot loose, and fancy free. Got to love ya though.
Great sailing weekend. Friday 15-20 at times 25-30. one of the rare days. Winds out of southeast, starboard beat to the dam, port reach the other way. Saturday light winds and fluky but still great for the last day of November. Had a friend with me Friday that has never sailed before. He told me he loved it!
Didn't get sailing this weekend - too many non-sailing houseguests. We'll be at the boat next weekend & its going to be chilly! I'm hoping for a good weekend because Monday (12/9) we pull out at 8am.
Several of the post are about sailing and what your doing but the signiture or names do not say where your all sailing. It would be nice to know where you all are. If your local and going out it would be fun to watch for each other.
Doug: You might want to install a couple of dehumidifers as well as a heater to keep the boat dry. For the white stuff you put in those things , just go to Lowes (or Home Depot) and purchase the stuff that is used to get rid of ice off your driveway. Five bucks for a two gallon jug is a lot cheaper that those "Dri" bags for two bucks at West Marine!!
Heading out to Stuart Island Thursday for teach those kids a day of sailing. Seems like the boys have terrorized the girls-and it is my turn to "turn the tables"!
