I've had a lot of trouble reefing in my 1997 Cat250 WK so this winter I decided to figure out what was going on inside the boom.
Found a lot of sediment come out, but the main problem is at both ends of the boom - the blocks are separated by cut sheets of plastic - presumable to keep the lines from jumping. However, the plastic is too thick - the blocks are bound by the end-boom fittings because the plastic sheets are too thick.
Anybody else encountered this and what is a solution. Thanks very much!
The second relates to a potentially severe defect in the sheave shaft in the gooseneck at the front of the boom. Inspect your rig carefully to be sure the lockup you're experiencing is not because the shaft worked its way loose:
