I have a Garmin GPSMAP 441s paired to a Airmar P79 transducer. The 441s will lose the bottom around 600'-700' Now I'm not too concerned about that but when I get closer in it will not re-aquire the bottom without turning it off then back on. Is this a result of the transducer or the 441s?

Have you checked the Garmin website for a software update or app note on this?
You can use the support search feature: https://buy.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/search.htm
Another thought would be to look for a Garmin users blog/forum.
Sailnet might also be a good way to go for specific answers.
